Solo Placements
For young people coming from secure facilities or under court orders, we provide intensive, high-support placements. These placements are designed to offer a structured, stable environment with robust emotional and behavioral support systems in place. Our high-support programs focus on helping these individuals adjust, rebuild trust, and develop the life skills necessary for a smoother transition into less restrictive settings.
Step-Down Placements
Our solo placement program is designed for children who require focused and intensive support. This option allows us to concentrate fully on the individual needs of the child, giving them the attention and support necessary to break cycles of negative behaviour and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Solo placements create a safe space where children can heal and flourish without the distractions or pressures of a group setting.
High-Support
Our step-down placement service is ideal for children who have progressed through solo care and are ready to transition into placements with other young people. This gradual process helps prepare them for a more social setting, fostering independence and improving their interpersonal skills. The step-down plan is a critical part of our approach, ensuring that children have the tools and confidence to reintegrate successfully into group environments.
Our Approach
At Cherished Children’s Homes, we understand that many of the children and young people we care for have experienced trauma, which can deeply affect their emotional, behavioural, and psychological well-being. Our trauma-therapeutic approach is at the heart of our care, providing a structured, compassionate framework to help each child process their experiences and begin to heal.
Understanding Trauma Trauma can manifest in many ways, including anxiety, anger, withdrawal, or disruptive behaviours. At Cherished Children’s Homes, we are committed to seeing beyond the behaviour and understanding the underlying causes. We acknowledge that these behaviours are often survival mechanisms developed in response to adverse experiences, and our role is to help children unlearn these responses by offering them safety, stability, and care.
Therapeutic Relationships At the core of our trauma-informed care is the development of strong, trusting relationships between our staff and the children. We believe that healing begins with connection, and our staff are trained to build relationships that are consistent, empathetic, and non-judgemental. By fostering trust, we help children feel secure enough to express their feelings, fears, and anxieties in a space where they are understood and supported.
Tailored Therapeutic Interventions Every child’s experience of trauma is unique, and so are their needs. We tailor our therapeutic interventions to meet the individual needs of each child, ensuring that we address their specific emotional and psychological challenges. Our team employs a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including:
Emotional Regulation and Coping Skills One of the key aspects of trauma-informed care is helping children develop healthy coping mechanisms and emotional regulation skills. Many children who have experienced trauma struggle with managing their emotions, leading to outbursts or withdrawal. Our staff work with children on a daily basis to teach them how to recognise, understand, and manage their emotions in a safe and supportive environment. Techniques such as mindfulness, breathing exercises, and structured routines are often integrated into their care plan to help them develop these essential skills.
Promoting Resilience and Empowerment Our trauma-informed approach is not only focused on healing past wounds but also on building resilience for the future. We aim to empower children by promoting a sense of self-worth, competence, and autonomy. Through supportive relationships and tailored interventions, we encourage children to develop confidence in their ability to overcome challenges and build a brighter, healthier future.
Collaboration and Multi-Agency Support We recognise the importance of working collaboratively with a wide range of professionals, including therapists, social workers, and healthcare providers, to ensure that every child receives comprehensive, wraparound care. Our trauma-informed therapeutic approach is integrated with input from all key stakeholders, ensuring that the child’s therapeutic journey is fully supported from all angles.
At Cherished Children’s Homes, our trauma-informed approach is fundamental to the care we provide. By offering a safe, nurturing environment, building trusting relationships, and providing tailored therapeutic support, we help children not only heal from their past experiences but also build the resilience and coping skills needed to thrive in the future.
Our approach is built on the belief that every child deserves a chance to heal, grow, and thrive in a safe, nurturing environment. We recognise that many of the young people who come to us have faced significant challenges, and our focus is on providing tailored interventions to help break the cycle of negative behaviours. Through individualised care and a structured pathway of support, we aim to foster positive change in every child’s life.
At Cherished Children’s Homes, we are committed to making a lasting difference in the lives of the young people we care for. Through focused intervention, a nurturing environment, and a carefully structured step-down programme, we empower children to build resilience, break negative patterns, and move forward with confidence towards a brighter future.
